Where Do I Go From Here? Senior Application Process

Applicants to U.S. Universities :

  1. Decide on final list. Hand paper copy to Steven Ramsammy. (By Sept. 3, 2007)
  2. Register for and take the SAT I, II, and TOEFL, as necessary (please see Zoë Losada for deadlines).
  3. Request at least two teacher recommendations. (By Sept. 17, 2007) (Please note that some teachers will request an updated copy of your resume.)
  4. Check application requirements for each school on your list (by Oct. 20/Oct. 6, if you are applying ED)
  5. Decide how you are going to apply and complete applications (by Nov. 14/Oct. 20, 2007 if applying ED), including essays and any supplements. If you are applying online, be sure to print the electronic confirmation from the school.
  6. Obtain bank letter (original for each school) and complete the financial statement for each school, if you are not a U.S. resident or citizen (by Nov. 16, 2007).
  7. Apply for financial aid, if necessary (financial aid form for non-US citizens and residents/FAFSA and the CSS form for U.S. citizens).
  8. Make sure your scores are sent from ETS to the universities (either at the time you register for your last SAT I or II, or as soon as you have completed your applications).
  9. Send all relevant parts of the application in ONE package to each school (Steve and I will help you do this—but you MUST give us the confirmation of your application submission, if you have applied online and, in order for us to send your materials, you must have your parents sign a mailing waiver) (Oct. 20, 2006 for EA, by Nov. 29 all other applications).

Other possible steps, depending on your individual needs:

  • If you are interested in playing varsity sports in college:
    • Register with the NCAA if you are interested in playing varsity sports.
    • Prepare a video with highlights from your playing (3-4 hours).
    • Develop special Sports resume with specific dates and accomplishments.

If interested in applying to an art school: Prepare a portfolio for art schools, or simply to demonstrate your work (the former will have to follow specific guidelines set by each school). Please note that most art schools in the U.S. have somewhat later deadlines so that students have the opportunity to complete the portfolio. NEVERTHELESS, students must check application requirements for EACH school they apply to.
