Summer Reading Program

In order to build upon the skills our students have acquired over the course of the year, we are asking all of them to read a book and complete a related assignment during the summer break. A multitude of studies demonstrate the clear and direct correlation between the amount an individual reads and the success he or she achieves in English, both in standardized testing and within school-specific assessments. The English Department feels that outside reading - both required and by choice - can help students in the following areas: increased vocabulary, augmented reading comprehension, better reading fluency, improved writing skills (particularly with respect to sentence structure), and, ultimately, a greater understanding of the world around them.

The links below contain specific assignments that go along with the texts which we are asking our students to read this summer. Please be aware that the assignments require a close reading of the texts, and in many cases, will require the student to return to the text for review and substantiation of their responses. All assignments are due on the first day of class upon return from summer break. If you have any questions about the assignments, please contact Mr. East at eastm@ciccaracas.com.ve.
