ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages

The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Department offers a comprehensive program for students whose native language is other than English and who demonstrate a limited English proficiency.

Our mission is to create a cordial and enriching relationship that builds a bridge for sharing and understanding so that the learning process occurs in a caring environment in which everyone's experience is valued. We believe that maintaining an updated curriculum, giving and obtaining professional development promotes optimum teaching that meets individual learning styles and needs. Our goal is to pursue transformation of each student into a successful English learner that is able to function effectively in social situations and mainstream classes.

ESOL is offered in grades 1-10 at different proficiency levels: Beginning (novice)-Intermediate-Advanced. Also, IB English B is offered for grades 11-12. Our main focus is on developing language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing; and the use of authentic language that can be applied for meaningful purposes in and out of the school context.
