Your best bet for general Internet searching
is to start at any of the search engines approved by Infopeople.

If you are doing a research paper, you should not just rely on internet searches. Instead, using an online, subscription database provides you with access to lots of reviewed articles from journals, newspapers, etc.

We are pleased to announce that CIC has now subscribed to such a database called Ebscohost. Ebscohost has an online encyclopedia, dictionary and lots of articles for research on a huge variety of topics. The database can be accessible from home by clicking on these icons, but you do need the user information. Just ask in the library for the passwords.

To use Ebscohost, click on one of these user interfaces for middle and high school students. Once there, type in the subject to access relevant. Middle school students can go directly to Kids Search while high school students may be more comfortable using the Student Research Center interface.

For research on current topics for JMUN, SAMUN or any "Point of View" topic, you can go directly to the Points of View database for information on controversial issues of the day (when you click on this link, you will be asked to log in again. Just type in the CIC username and password to get to this database). You can also get there by clicking on the main Ebscohost icon below.

If you would like some general information on the research process and how to write a good research paper, check out the Internet Public Library's A+ Research & Writing Page for high school and college students. And if you need any help, the staff in the library are here to help you! All you have to do is ask!

Our academic honesty policy states that all work must be original. To help students recognize whether they have plagiarized, CIC subscribes to a website, www.turnitin.com, that scans written work and appraises its original content. If your teacher has required that you submit your written work to turnitin.com, you can link to the site from this page. Your teacher should provide the username and password for your class. Other teachers will request that you send them an electronic copy of your work, and they will submit it to Turnitin for you. If you encounter any problems, please see Mr. McCann.
